I’ve been saving this for the Halloween season. From 1910, Peek-A-Boo Mister Moon, Peek-A-Boo. This sheet music art is insane and terrifying. A badly drawn, vaguely insane-looking woman peers up at the moon who looks back with menacing eyes and an “I’m going to eat you whole!” smile. This is the stuff of nightmares. (And, yes, the vaudeville artists on the cover are in blackface. You don’t have to travel very far in American history before you bump into some racism.)
