The main entrance to the former Indianola Middle School (1929) on E. 19th Ave. is decorated with sculptures of Ohio woodland creatures.
The sculptures were all done by Ohio State professor and sculptor Erwin Frey (1892-1967). Frey is best known for the iconic William Oxley Thompson statue (1930) on campus.
The little owl is one of my favorites.
Today’s Dispatch reports the Columbus City Schools Administration, after gross mismanagement of planned renovations, is recommending selling-off this historic and architectural treasure and one of the finest buildings in the University District.
Contact the Columbus City Schools and let them know we must preserve this wonderful building!
