This c. 1911 postcard is about the most sinister-looking image of University Hall I’ve ever seen. It looks like something a student might see in a nightmare. I might find some use for it on the website around Halloween.
You’ve got the creepy Victorian building with towers and turrets, silhouetted against a full moon peaking out from behind the clouds of a gathering storm. Bare trees claw at the sky. All of the windows of the building blaze brightly—an unnatural jack-o’lantern orange. Even the basement windows are lit. It’s as if the occupants are expecting something to happen tonight…
All this needs is a swirl of bats in the foreground to be complete.
